Obituary

Kingston – Irja J. “Tel” Fisher 95, formerly of Abington, Hingham and Carver died Thursday April 9, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Elmer “Chick” Fisher.

Born and raised in Abington she was the daughter of the late Emil and Hilma (Jutila) Tyni, and attended Abington Schools.

She worked as a hostess at the famous “Toll House Restaurant “in Whitman for several years.

She was an avid golfer and a former member of the Brockton Country Club, as well as the Braintree, Pembroke and Halifax Country Clubs.

She loved animals.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Theo Tyni of Kingston, and her two nephews Donald Tyni of West Barnstable and Ronald Tyni of California. She was the sister of the late Tovia Tyni.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 17 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to MSPCA 350 S. Huntington Ave Boston, MA 02130.
