Obituary

DRACUT - Athanasia "Soula" (Niarhos) Giannopoulos, 78, a longtime resident of Dracut, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 8th at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of the late Anastasios "Tasos" Giannopoulos, who died on June 22, 2006.

She was born in Kalamata, Greece on January 18, 1931, and she was the daughter of the late Panagiotis and Alexandra (Daharanis) Niarhos. She was educated in Athens as a seamstress. In 1947 she was married and then began managing her own business. In 1971, after starting a family of her own, she moved to Lowell, MA and started working as a seamstress.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She gave a lot of love to the ones surrounding her. She loved to cook and entertain her friends and family.

She was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. She loved her church and was very active with it and the community . She was greatly loved and will be missed.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Kostas and Metaxia Giannopoulos of Kalamata, Greece; two daughters and a son-in-law Alexandra and Peter Karamanolis of Atlanta, Georgia, and Irena Giannopoulos of Albertville, Alabama; eight grandchildren Nasia Giannopoulos, Demi Kyriakopoulos, Thania Kyriakopoulos, Desi Kyriakopoulos, Constantine Karamanolis, Tasos Karamanolis, Alexander Karamanolis, and Giana Karamanolis; two brothers Panagiotis Niarchos of Greece and Kostas Niarchos of Dracut; a sister Foteni Alexeas of Greece; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister Dina Booras.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, TODAY (Friday) from 4 until 8 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 11 AM, followed by her Funeral Service at 12 Noon at the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity on Lewis St., in Lowell. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to Assumption of the Virgin Mary 1160 Mammoth Rd., Dracut, MA 01826.
