William W. O’Brien Jr., 86 of Medway died April 5 in the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham. He was the husband of Content “Connie” (Layne) O’Brien.
Born in Milford on March 30 1923, the son of the late William W. and M. Josephine (DeWire) O’Brien, Mr. O’Brien had lived in Medway since the age of 2.
Mr. O’Brien had been a general contractor working out of Local 609.
He had worked on the building of Shopper’s World in Framingham, the Prudential Center and many other large construction projects in the Greater Boston area.
Mr. O’Brien was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s parish in Medway, a member of the Medway VFW, the AARP and an active member of the Medway Senior Citizens Club.
In 2003, the Medway Senior Club awarded Mr. O’Brien its "Senior of the Year Award" for all the volunteer work he had done for that organization.
Mr. O’Brien served in the Navy Seabees during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He attained the rank of Carpenter’s Mate Second Class.
Mr. O’Brien enjoyed traveling throughout New England, times spent at the Senior Center and times with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey F. Grenon and his wife, Sandy of Medway and his daughter, Lois L. Arthur and her husband, Michael of Milford.
He is also survived by his brother, Robert J. O’Brien and his wife, Teresa of Medway and his grandchildren, Jeffrey Grenon Jr. and Jennifer Grenon.
He is also survived by nieces, Kathleen Murray of Medway, Julie Fahrenolt of Norwood and Mary O’Brien of Medway and nephew, Mark O’Brien of Tarrytown, NY.
He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday April 9 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Blessing in St. Joseph Church in Medway at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will in Oakland Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
