Thomas J. Niles Jr.

...retired from Polaroid; 61

TEWKSBURY - Thomas J. Niles Jr., a resident of Tewksbury for almost three decades, diedThursday morning, June 26, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, after suffering anapparent heart attack at his residence. He was the husband of Mildred A. (Montecalvo) Niles,with whom he had celebrated a 36th wedding anniversary this past Oct. 15th.

He was born in Boston, June 16, 1942, a son of the late Thomas J. and Marion (McMann) Niles. He was raised in Roslindale and had lived in Reading before moving to Tewksbury in 1975. Hewas a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army.

He graduated from Boston schools and attained a degree in mechanical engineering from NewburyCollege.

He retired from Polaroid after 31 years of service as a mechanical design engineer. Sinceretirement, he had become an accomplished furniture maker and wood craftsman.

He will be remembered as having been devoted to his family and home life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Niles III, and hiswife Rusann (Porier) Chester-Niles of Bedford, NH, Scott E. and his wife Barbara (Brown)Niles of No. Billerica, a daughter, Marci Niles of Tewksbury, a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and her husband James Pyke of Roslindale, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroyand his wife Mildred Niles of Dover, NH, Kenneth and his wife Dianna Niles of Stoughton, fourgrandchildren, Kaitlynn Niles, Pena Rebecca Niles, Cassandra Chester, Derrick Chester, and manynieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 30, in St. William’s Church, Following cremation, burial will be private.
