Obituary

Theresa (Passas) Lafond, 83, of Manchester died April 1, 2009 at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Agia Paraskevi, Epirus, Greece on September 20, 1925, she was the daughter of Costas and Helen (Zikas) Passas. She lived in Manchester and Bedford most of her life. She was a graduate of Central High School and earned an associates degree from New Hampshire College of Accounting & Commerce.
She worked as a mortgage banker at Manchester Bank and Bankeast many years. Along with her husband, Arthur J. Lafond who died in 1988, she also was co-owner of the Mayfair Café in Manchester for several years.
She was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
IN HER LIFE: Mrs. Lafond was a longtime participant in local and national politics. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed going to Wells Beach, ME. She also volunteered at Elliot Hospital and enjoyed taking aerobics with “the gang” at Elliot Senior Health Center. She was particularly proud of her Greek heritage.
The family includes two children, Constance Van Houten of Manchester and Stephen Lafond of Hooksett; a grandson, Jeff Lafond of Pembroke; a brother, George Passas of Manchester and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Stella Vangos and Cassie Gallant.
The funeral was held Saturday, April 4, 2009 in the funeral home. Committal prayers followed in the mausoleum at Pine Grove Cemetery, Calef Rd., Manchester.
