Obituary

EKBERG of Brockton January 5, 2002 Newell S. Ekberg 87 years. Husband of the late Alice M. (Thibeault) Ekberg. Father of Evelyn M. DeLutis and her husband Donald of Bridgewater and Paula J. Richards and her husband Charles, Jr. of Bellingham. Gumpy to Stephanie Ryan; Donald DeLutis, Jr; David DeLutis and Brian and Benjamin Richards. Brother of Anita Davidson of Brockton.

Funeral Mass in St. Basil Chapel, The Catholic Center at Bridgewater State College 122 Park Ave. Bridgewater Wed. at 10 AM. Newell’s family will greet friends at the chapel at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. Visiting hours in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Tues. 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to My Brothers Keeper PO Box 3552 Brockton, MA 02304-3552.Mr. Ekberg died Sat. evening in the Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He previously was a resident of The Life Care Center in W. Bridgewater.He was born in Brockton son of the late Axel E. and Helen (Julian) Ekberg and was a life long resident of Brockton.For many years he was a delivery man for the former Producers Dairy in Brockton starting his career driving a horse and wagon. Mr. Ekberg also worked at the Fore River Shipyard and the Brockton Housing authority.

As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball and football for Brockton city teams.He was an avid trapper for many years and participated in the Fur Traders Auction. He was a longtime motorcycle enthusiast and belonged to the Retreads Motorcycle Club and the Red Knights.

He is survived by 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren one sister and many nieces and nephewsHe was the brother of the late Waldemar “Wally” Ekberg, Axel Ekberg and Walter Ekberg
