Norman L. Nevius, 73, of Norton died on Monday March 30, 2009 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn L. (Wagner) Cox who passed away on May 21, 1992.
Born in Taunton, MA on August 7, 1935 he was a son of the late George C. and Laura L. (Brown) Nevius.
Norman grew up in Taunton, was educated in Taunton public schools and was a graduate of Taunton High School. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era, serving in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1966 with the rank of Private First Class.
A retired Press Forman, Mr. Nevius had worked for the A & Z Hayward Chain Co. in East Providence for 18 years before retiring and had also worked in the Maintenance Department at the Taunton Jewish Community Center for several years.
Norm was a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and also numerous living history organizations. A former member of the Norton Lions Club, he enjoyed traveling with his family, gardening, projects around the house and he was an avid die hard sports fan. Mr. Nevius had made his home in Norton for over 40 years and was formerly of Taunton.
He is survived by his devoted children James R. Fulton of Oklahoma, Ruth A. Ross of Rhode Island, Patricia J. Plante of Rhode Island, David W. Gowen of Taunton, Sherman E. Cox of North Easton and Christopher L. Cox of Norton. The brother of the late Donald G. Nevius, he is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his nephew Scott Nevius of Mansfield and his niece Tamara Nyblom of Rhode Island.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday April 4th at 9:30 A.M. in the Trinitarian Congregational Church, East Main and Pine Streets, Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday April 3rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
