Obituary

F. Brian Emery, age 58 passed away at home on Saturday March 28, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Brian was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of the late Ernest and Gladys (Longstaff) Emery. Mr. Emery is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sharon (Steeves) Emery; his daughter Tricia (Robbie) Mattie of Pembroke and Amanda Emery of Weymouth; a brother Terence and his wife Joan Emery of Florenceville, NB. and a sister in law Linda Emery of Orlando, FL. Brian was a most proud “Papa” to his grandsons Joshua and Zachary Mattie and is also survived by his nieces, nephews and many cousins. Brian was predeceased by his brother and business partner Lawrence “Larry” Emery. Brian was a graduate of Centerville High School and the New Brunswick Institute Technology of Moncton, NB. He worked at various jobs in his career, in NB. At Crabbes Lumber and McCain Foods, in British Columbia at Terrace Motors and Zeller’s Department Store in management, at Moncton, Fredericton and Chatham, New Brunswick to St. John’s Newfoundland. Brian then moved to the South Shore to work with his brother Larry in the overhead garage door business. After 30 plus years of ownership Brian and Larry recently retired upon selling their business Overhead Door Company of Boston located in Rockland. Brian loved to travel and had hoped to visit all 50 states. Brian was a member and past trustee of the Old South Union Church. He was an avid spots fan and followed all of Boston’s teams but loved being a Red Sox Fan. Brian was a coin collector of Canadian Coins was interested in genealogy and loved to play card games of cribbage and “99”. Brian was a member and Past Master of the Old Colony Masonic Lodge in Hingham. He served his lodge as a trustee and his district as a District Deputy Grand Marshall under R. W. Richard Weston. He was a certified instructor of the Lodge of Instructions. Brian was appointed by M. W. Arthur Johnson to serve the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts as Grand Sword Bearer and appointed by M.W. Fred Bauer to serve as Deputy Grand Master. He was honored to have been presented with the Joseph Warren Medal and later the Henry Price Medal. Brian was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Boston and was a Past Commander in Chief of Massachusetts Consistory. He was nominated and received his 33 degree with the class of 2007 in Washington D.C. at the first joint Session of the Northern and Southern Jurisdictions. He was also affiliated with St. Bernard’s Commandery, The Master’s Lodge, York Rite, Shrine Aleppo Temple and was a Past Monarch of Taleb Grotto of Quincy. Friends and relatives are invited to the Funeral at the Old South Union Church, 25 Columbian St. S. Weymouth on Thursday April 2 at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Wednesday from 2to4 and 7to9 P.M. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 P.M. by the Old Colony Masonic Lodge of Hingham. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in S. Weymouth.
