Obituary

James A. Kearney, 83 years, of East Bridgewater, died March 23, 2009. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Gerald P. and Ruth (Gorman) Kearney. He attended Brockton schools and during WWII was a US Navy Aviator. Mr. Kearney was a graduate of Harvard and was employed for 43 years with GMAC. Following his retirement, he had been a volunteer for 18 years at My Brother’s Keeper and the Holy Cross Fathers’ Retreat House at Stonehill College. He was a member of Thorny Lea Golf Club and an avid Boston sports fan.

He is survived by his children James A. Kearney, Jr. of Saratoga, NY, Sally Barber and Michael Kearney both of Cohasset; 11 grandchildren; three brothers Thomas Kearney of Brockton, John Kearney of Halifax, Gerald Kearney of Eastpointe, MI, three sisters Margaret Legge of Jacksonville, FL, Ruth Farley of Simsbury, CT and Brenda MacGillivray of Halifax and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Mary Beth Barnes, brother of the late Mary Powers and former husband of the late Helen Kearney.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Callahan CSC Saturday, April 18 at 11:30 am at the Chapel of Mary at Stonehill College, 320 Washington Street, North Easton, MA 02356.
