Alfred R. “Jim” Nason, 81, a lifelong resident of Norton died unexpectedly on Friday March 20, 2009 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of June E. (Cathcart) Nason to whom he was wed on November 11, 1948.
Born in Norton, MA on December 19, 1927 he was a dear son of the late Dura W. and Edith (Ratcliffe) Nason.
Jim grew up and was educated in Norton. During WWII he enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines and proudly served his country before being honorably discharged on February 13, 1947 with the rank of Messman.
Mr. Nason was a retired Master Plumber and was the owner of A.R. Nason Plumbing & Heating in Norton, a company he operated for over 40 years before retiring.
He was an active member and had served twice as lodge master of the King David Masonic Lodge in Taunton and was also a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton where his grandfather had served as a former minister.
An avid fisherman, Jim also enjoyed shell fishing, hunting, biking, cooking, and listening to Irish music. His other hobbies included beekeeping, gardening, projects around his homes and especially traveling, which he and his wife were fluent world travelers and had enjoyed trips taken to 6 different continents. For the past 10 years he and his wife had divided there times between living in Norton and at there home in Dennis on Cape Cod.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 60 years he is survived by his devoted son Douglas J. Nason and his wife Elena of Norton. He was the brother of Betty Lorance of South Carolina, Malcolm Nason of Wareham and Arizona and the late Charles Nason, Donald Nason and Ethel Corbett, additional survivors include his loving granddaughters Kristy Perry and her husband Mark of Attleboro, Kelly Nason of Norton and the late Stephanie Nason, his cherished great grandchildren Aidan, Stefana and Krista and he also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday March 24th at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, East Main and Pine Streets, Norton. Private burial will be held at a later date in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 23rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St.(Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
