Arsenio “Sammy” Tierno, 79 of Somerville, died unexpectedly Wednesday.
Born in Salerno, Italy he lived in Somerville since 1954 and was the son of the late Filomena (Abruzzese) and Guiseppe Tierno. Sammy was a Custodian at Tufts University for 12 years and retired in 1994 and had previously worked at NECCO as a candy maker for many years. He enjoyed making wine and doing woodworking.
Beloved husband of Maria C. (Vricella) Tierno. Devoted father of Joseph Tierno of Somerville, Anthony Tierno and his wife Karen of Reading, Carla Mills and her husband Bill of Virginia.
Loving grandfather of Joseph, Andrew, Austin and Jonathan Tierno. Brother of Agnese Minichelli, Francesca Coiro, Mary Woodworth all of Somerville, Mario Tierno of Tewksbury, Joseph Tierno of Lynn, and the late Peter and Octavio Tierno.
Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Monday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday 4 - 8.
Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Arsenio’s name to St. Ann Parish, 50 Thurston St., Somerville, MA 02145.
