Obituary

Joseph R. Furtado, age 76, a Tiverton resident for 40 years, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Josephine “Sherrill” (Cavaca) Furtado. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph R. & the late Mary R. (Guimar) Furtado. Joe had worked for many years as a Floorman for Cerama Lighting Co. in Fall River, until the companies closing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the USS Randolph during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Michaels Sportsman’s Club, and enjoyed all sports.

Besides his wife of Tiverton, survivors include his children: the late Lauren Atwood & her husband Robert L. Atwood of Tiverton; Sandra L. Furtado of Tiverton; Michael J. Furtado & wife Kelly of Tiverton; Melissa M. Nestor & husband Tim of Fall River; and Melanie J. Furtado of Tiverton. 5 Grandchildren: Patricia Lynn (Atwood) Francoeur & husband Steve; Ryan J. & Tyler P. Nestor; Taylor N. & Dylan J. Furtado. 2 Sisters: Mary Irene & George Barboza of Westport and Delores & Manuel Pavao of Fall River. A Niece: Elizabeth & Michael Millette. A Godson: Steven Furtado. Late nephew: Peter Furtado.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date & time. There are no calling hours.
