Evans, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Select Specialty, Mr. Jimmie Augustus Nichols, 78, husband of Rachel “Libbie” Nichols.
Mr. Nichols was a native and life long resident of Columbia County. He was retired owner of J.A. Nichols Masonry Contractor and a US Army Veteran. Mr. Nichols was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, where he had previously served as treasurer and was a member of the Mildred Walton Sunday School Class and of the Methodist Men’s Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Martinez Masonic Lodge #710 where he was and Past Master. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Martinez OES #464. Mr. and Mrs. Nichols enjoyed camping and were members of the FCRV/NCHA.
Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Wm. Keith Nichols of Appling, Gary E. Nichols and wife Lola of Roswell, GA; grandchildren: Kristi, Tiffany, Jeremy and Holly Nichols; brother: Joel Benjamin Nichols of Bradenton, FL and sister: Dorothy Ersin of Evans. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his brothers: Charles Edward Nichols, Sr., Lenwood Nichols and Donald W. Nichols.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Moon officiating. Mr. Nichols will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Nichols, Lanny Bullard, Cecil Bullard, Bill Bohling, Charles Daniels and Mickey Scoggins. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mildred Walton Sunday School Class, Martinez Masonic Lodge #710 and the Order of the Eastern Star #464. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.
