Mrs. Helen R. Vara, 83 of Medford died Tuesday in the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover. She was the wife of Michael Vara with whom she shared more than 52 years of marriage.
Mrs. Vara was born in Boston, daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Noe) Loguidice. She attended local Boston schools. In earlier years she worked as a seamstress, employed in Boston’s Garment District. She loved to cook, play cards and bingo. She was also talented in crocheting. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters: Carol Vara of Ledyard, CT., Emma Gennaro and her husband Thomas of Andover, Patricia Appleby and her husband Paul of Melrose, two grandsons, Patrick and Daniel Appleby, three sisters: Josephine Loconzolo and her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Dorothy Marshall of Woburn and Mary Michiche of FL. and a brother Joseph Loguidice of FL. Sister of the late: Camille Terilli, Frank Loguidice, Rico Loguidice, Yolanda Sarno, & James Loguidice.
Visiting hours Thursday from 4 thru 8pm at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A funeral mass will be held in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, Friday at 11:30 am. Contributions in Helen’s name may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
