Mary (DeSouto) Alvares, 82, of Westport passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at The Oaks Nursing Center in New Bedford. She was the wife of Edwin Alvares.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Manuel and Diamontina (Farias) DeSouto, she had lived in Westport since 1951. Mrs. Alvares was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport.
Including her husband, she is survived by 2 sons: Edwin Alvares, Jr. of Westport and Ronald Alvares of Westport; 2 daughters: Marlene Cabral of Somerset and Pamela Alvares of Westport; a brother: John DeSouto of Somerset; 3 sisters: Lenora Moniz of Swansea, Frances Alexander of Somerset and Madeline Carmody of Clinton, CT; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Joseph DeSouto.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. George Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
