TAUNTON – Arthur P. Ventura, the husband of Mary R. (Ferreira) Ventura, died unexpectedly at his home on March 16, 2009.
He was 83.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Fostine) Ventura.
Educated in Taunton schools, he later served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Mr. Ventura owned the Ventura Grain Co. in Taunton, a multi-generational family business for which he worked since childhood.
A life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 150 of Taunton, and former member of the Mechanic’s Cooperative Bank board of directors, he was also a member of the Portuguese American Civic Club, and the Portuguese Cultural Society of Rhode Island.
Mr. Ventura was a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church in N. Dighton.
Besides his wife of 60 years, he leaves 3 sons, Arthur P. Ventura, Jr. and his wife Toni, Paul J. Ventura and his wife Cheryl and Matthew J. Ventura and his wife Caroline, all of N. Dighton; a daughter, Barbara Ventura of Taunton; 4 grandchildren, Jason Ventura, USAF, stationed in Iraq, Jessica Ventura of Taunton, Rebecca Ventura Paralta and her husband Adam of Leominster, and Camden Ventura of N. Dighton; and 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jayden Ventura, both of Fall River.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway Taunton, on Saturday, March 21st at 10 a.m., to be followed by a funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, N. Dighton at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will take place on Friday, March 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
