MEDFORD - Thora L. (Learnard) Taylor, age 68, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, June 22, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. She was the wife of the late Kenneth G. Taylor, who died in 1997.
She was born in Melrose, a daughter of the late Donald and Thora (Wood) Learnard. She was raised in Melrose and Arlington, and graduated Arlington High School. She had lived in Medford for the past 4 decades.In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary at Jordan Marsh's downtown Boston headquarters. Later, she worked as a lunch mother in the Medford school system, and retired from the Arlington public school's cafeteria program.
Throughout her life she was an active member of the First Baptist Church on Medford, where she had served as a deaconess, a member of the Zeta Alpha Class, and most of the church committees. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol L. and Edwin Burlew of Mesa, AZ, a son and his fiancé, Steven K. Taylor and Tonya Pino both of Medford. She was also the devoted grandmother of Logan, Paige, and Colon Berlew, loving sister of Marjorie Robinson of Cape Cod, Richard Learnard of So. Carolina, and the late Robert Learnard, sister-in-law of Muriel Learnard of Maine, and also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Her funeral is Wednesday, June 25, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Oakland St. Medford. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 7 in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA, phone (781) 395 0128. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
