Doris M. Atkins, age 87, formerly of Mystic, entered her eternal peace surrounded by her loving family and her wonderful friend Edna Adamson on March 16, 2009 at the William W. Backus Hospital.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 8, 1921, the daughter of the late Silas And Emma (McCormick) Morgan. She married Cleveland L. Atkins in New York City on April 11, 1942. He passed away on April 19, 1996.
Doris was employed by the State of CT working as a Mental Retardation Supervisor for 23 years. She was President of the CSEA Union for 15 years.
After retiring she was President of Pawcatuck Neighborhood seniors and also a member of the Board of Directors. She was a member of Groton Fleet Reserve.
Surviving are four children, Roberta Holt of Plainfield, Robert Atkins of Mystic, Jan-Marie Smith of Mystic and Kevin Atkins of Mystic; eleven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Muriel Dua and Roberta Dumbo.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 11am to 11:45am, followed by a service at 12noon. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
