Raymond J. Izzo, 88, of Hampstead, NH formerly of Winchester March 15th passed away at home on March 15th, surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Rocco and Mary (Palladino) Izzo. Fondly remembered by staff and colleagues of the Somerville School Dept. where he spent 38 years. He taught at the Southern Jr. HS for 13 years before becoming Coordinator of Federal Education Funds, retiring in 1990. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and late US Navy veteran WWII Invasion of Normandy on D-Day, where he transported troops from ships to Utah Beach.
Mr. Izzo was the beloved husband for 60 years of Marie (Fitzgerald), and the devoted father of Lawrence M. Izzo of Hampstead, NH and Christopher R. Izzo and his wife Mary of Columbia, MD. He was also the dear brother of Jean MacDonald of Somerville and the late Ted Izzo. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday, March 19th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wed. from 4-8PM. Interment is private.
