James E. Flammia, Sr., of Medford, died Friday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 80.
Mr. Flammia was born and raised in Medford, the son of the late Dionizio and the late Clotilda (Cantillo) Flammia. James worked for many years with his brothers at the former Flammia Bros. Dodge in Medford. James was also a firefighter with the Medford Fire Department for 25 years and served on Engine Three and Ladder Two for most of his career. Jim was also an avid fisher and hunter and enjoyed annual vacations in Aruba. Most of all he was devoted to his family and enjoyed the company of his large family and circle of friends.
He was the beloved husband of Linda (Hasenbein) Flammia and the late Barbara (Joyce) Flammia. He was a devoted father to Donna Carty and her husband Larry Erickson of Carver, Gail Morrison and her husband Kenneth of York Beach, ME, Barbara Flammia and her spouse Mary Hollingworth of Haverhill, James Flammia Jr and his wife Gail of Salem, NH, Laura Breton of Westford, William Flammia and his wife Patricia of Scottsdale AZ. He was a loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a dear brother to Harold Flammia of TX and the late Paul, Joseph, Anthony, Maurice Flammia, Rita Crocker, Anna Tavanese and also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Wednesday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in The Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 11 AM, with the Rev’d Paul Flammia, presiding. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
