ATTARDO, ANGELO "BUTCHIE" of So. Boston March 13, 2009. Beloved husband of Maureen E. (Richards). Devoted father of John, Maureen, Susan,Anthony, Karen, Richard, David, Nancy & Thomas. Dear brother of Joseph Attardo & the late Eleanor Attardo Minghetti. Loving grandfather of 28 grandchildren & 1 great-granddaughter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at The Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston, Tuesday 4-8 P.M. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial in The Gate of Heaven Church, Wednesday March 18 at 10 A.M. Interment St. Michael's Cemetery. Fistic Star One of the better Amateur Boxers of New England is Southie Angelo "Butch" Attardo. Butch started boxing eight years ago at the age of 14 when he won the 125 lb Park department boxing championship under the direction of Joe Heirty and former star Tommy Sullivan. At 15 he won the NEAAAU featherwight title and has represented New England in the Nationals 4 times 1947, 48, 49 & 52. He also won the greater Lowell Golden Gloves in 1944, Out of 152 fights he has been the victor 127. During his navy career, begun in 1952, Butch won the First Naval District title and was runner up in the Northeast inter service Championship. He was a contestant in the semi-finals of the All Navy Championship in 1951. Butch, who attended South Boston High, is now training at the New Garden Gym in Boston.
