Maria L. (Chaves) Travis, 76, of Hudson, died on Saturday, March 14 at Bolton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marlboro. She was the beloved wife of Harold J. Travis who died in 1978.
Born in Santa Maria, the Azores, daughter of the late Jose and Mary (Costa) Chaves, she resided in Hudson most of her life. She was employed by the former Digital Equipment Corp. for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her son Paul Travis and his wife Sarah of Bolton; her daughter Aida Figueiredo and her husband Joe of Canada; her two daughters in law, Tina Machado of Canada, wife of Joe Machado who died in 2004 and Maria Machado of Canada, wife of John Machado who died in 2001. She is also survived by her brother Jose Chaves of Canada; her two sisters, Helena Chaves of Taunton, Conceicao Monteiro of Hudson; her 9 grandchildren, Julian and Aidan Travis of Bolton, Jason and Mark Figueiredo of Canada, Cindy, Alfie, Jolene, Tony and Bobby Machado of Canada; 7 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her two sons, Maria was pre-deceased by her brother John Chaves in 1989 and her sister Filomena Carvalho in 2006.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 808 Main Street, Bolton. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Bolton. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
