Obituary

SALEM- Robert W. Knowles, age 79, husband of Sally H. (Martin) Knowles, of Salem, died Sunday evening, June 15, 2003, at his home following a short illness.

Born in Melrose, he was the son of the late Frankland and Miviene A. (Durling) Knowles. He was a graduate of Swampscott High School in 1941, attended Wentworth Institute and was a resident of Salem for the past 48 years.

A Navy veteran of WWII, he attained the rating of Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class.

Prior to his retirement in 1986, Mr Knowles was employed for over 40 years by the New England Telephone Company and worked out of the Salem, Framingham and Boston offices.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage, he is survived by three sons, Scott and his wife Kathleen Knowles of Danvers, Jonathan Knowles of Beverly, Christopher and his wife Elizabeth Knowles of Salem, 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Knowles, Christine Knowles and Matthew Knowles, all of Danvers, Casey Knowles and Sarah Knowles, both of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 11 AM in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hospice of The North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
