William J. O’Malia, 78, of Taunton formerly of Norton passed away on Wednesday March 11, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of Patricia T. (D’Agostino) O’Malia.
Born in Bronx, New York on June 28, 1930 he was a son of the late Charles and Julia (Fiske) O’Malia.
Bill grew up and was educated in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged December 16, 1954 with the rank of Private First Class.
Mr. O’Malia was a retired builder and was the owner of O’Malia & Son in Norton prior to retiring. He had made his home in Taunton for the past 12 years and formerly had resided in Norton for over 40 years.
Bill was quite artistically inclined and enjoyed painting and drawing. His other hobbies included clock making and woodworking and he treasured the times spent with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted children Christine Reks of Arizona, Michele O’ Malia of California, William O’Malia of Nevada, Brenda Lally of Cumberland, R.I., Debbie Duncan of Maine, Teresa Fruzzetti of Halifax and David Connell of Taunton. He was the dear brother of Virginia Kerns of Dedham, Theresa Bathen of Ashland, Eleanor Previti of Randolph, Julia Irvine of Westwood, Maureen Sheehan of Weymouth, Eileen Cogavin of Walpole and the late Charles O’Malia. He is also survived by his loving 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday March 16th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 P.M.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 15th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
