Obituary


WORCESTER

Stamatia (Mazanitis) Apostolou, 94 of Worcester passed away peacefully Mon., March 9 in UMASS University Medical Center . Her husband, Fotios Apostolou predeceased her. She leaves her loving family, Charles and his wife Sofia Apostolou of Worcester, Marina and her husband Dr. Victor Lorian of New York City and James and his wife Alice Apostolou of Worcester; six grandchildren, Christina, James and his wife Sarah, Richard, Marina, Laura and her husband Chris and Victor and his wife Triad. She was born in Dafnoula, County of Ioannina, Greece daughter of George and Marina (Malamou) Mazanitis and came to Worcester with her family in 1962.
Stamatia worked for Newton Sportswear Company and then she owned and operated with her husband the former Jimmy’s Restaurant on Old Front Street, for many years.
She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Service at 10 AM in St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, March 11, from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
