Younie, Walter S., of Marshfield, at the age of 85, passed away at peace and with dignity at Massachusetts General Hospital, March 4, 2009, with his wife by his side and surrounded by “his girls”.
Born in Quincy, graduated from Quincy High School. Walter was a retired industrial realty agent for the Railroad. Proud of his service to his country, he served in WWII and Korean War in the US Navy. Walter served on the USS Philadelphia and USS Brooklyn He was a Deacon of the Houghs Neck Congregational Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Quincy, President of the Brookridge Community Golf Association in FL., former co-owner with his wife Grace of Bra-Wey Florist in Weymouth Landing, former assembly Dad for Rainbow Girls Wollaston Assembly #l0, member of American Legion and VFW, Houghs Neck, Quincy and an avid Boston sports fan.
Walter was the son of the late Walter S. Younie, Sr. and Isabel(Sanderson) Younie. Beloved husband of Grace E.(Cullivan) Younie of Marshfield, his loving daughters Gail Lonergan of Duxbury, Jayne Burgess of Whitman, Linda Younie of Marshfield and Nancy Worthington and her husband Joel of Marshfield. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Brother of Edward Younie of Dublin, NH and Ralph Younie of No. Eastham, MA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March l4, 2009 at ll:00 a.m. in the Houghs Neck Congregational Church, 3l0 Manet Ave., Quincy, MA. Relatives and friends invited.
Interment will be at a later date in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
