SALEM - Robert B. “Bob” O’Leary, 82, of Salem, died March 6, 2009 at Grosvenor Park Nursing Center. He was the loving husband of Irene (Potocki) O’Leary with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
A life-long resident of Salem, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Breslow) O’Leary, and graduated from Salem High School.
A Navy veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a signalman and attained the rating of Signalman Third Class
Bob worked for over 40 years as a machinist at United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He enjoyed gardening, Christmastime, a good joke, and breakfast at the Century House, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He was well-loved and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by his children Kathy O’Leary of Danvers, Susan O’Leary of Salem, Patty O’Leary of Marblehead, David and his wife Patti O’Leary of North Andover, Janet O’Leary and her husband Ron Bartos of Ashland, and Maureen and her husband Bruce Murden of Danvers; his grandson David Robert O’Leary of North Andover; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jack O’Leary.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 4 to 8 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. At Bob’s request, there will be no funeral service.
