Obituary

Mary E. “Dolly” Arnone 92 years of Brockton died Saturday March 7, 2009 at West Acres Nursing Home. Mary was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose (Solari) Arnone and remained a lifelong resident of the city. She was a 1935 graduate of Brockton High School and graduated from Sturdy Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. During WW II she served as a surgical nurse with the 53rd General Hospital in England. Following her discharge she was a pediatric nurse for her brother the late Dr. William H. Arnone for 30 years. Mary retired as a school nurse for the City of Brockton in 1985. She had also been a volunteer for the American Red Cross and assisted at various clinics at the Brockton Board of Health.
Mary enjoyed reading, traveling and playing cards. She also loved sports especially the Boston Red Sox. She had been a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church and most recently Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
She was the sister of the late Felix, Frederick, Frank, William, Pasquale and Josephine Arnone, Theresa Bowen, Caroline Conley and Rose Donahue. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and her very dear friends.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 10 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 11 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 pm. Donations in Dolly’s name may be made to the Mary E. Arnone Scholarship Fund c/o Katherine Leger, Brockton High School 470 Forest Ave., Brockton, MA 02301.
