Obituary

Alice Rose (LaVigne) Vars, age 94, formerly of 11 Washington Street, Mystic, died Thursday evening at Groton Regency Retirement Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Vars was born in Artic, Rhode Island of November 11, 1908 the daughter of Frederick and Edna (Davignon) LaVigne. Raised in Baltic, she attended local schools and as a young woman worked in the Ponemah Mill in Taftville.

A longtime resident of Mystic, she enjoyed oil painting and flower gardening and was a familiar sight shopping in downtown Mystic.

Her husband, Albert John Vars died in December, 1965.

She is survived by a son, Wilfred Vars of Pawcatuck; three daughters, Teresa Park of North Stonington, Alma Limpert of North Stonington, and Joyce Boner of Plant City, Fla.; three sisters, Cora Kirkup of Norwich, Eva LaVigne of Uncasville, and Anna Bessette of Griswold; a half-sister, Leona LaVigne of Salton City, CA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandaughters.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Leo LaVigne and a sister, Marie Delvina “Dell” Talbot.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday evening from 6-8pm. Her funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10am. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
