Henry R. Pickering, 83, of Norton died on Thursday March 5, 2009 at the Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. He was the beloved husband of Fina M. (Gonsalves) Pickering.
Born in Fall River, MA on August 25, 1925 he was a son of the late Henry R. and Catherine (Miller) Pickering.
Henry grew up in Swansea, was educated in Swansea public schools and was a graduate of Case High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged on March 17, 1946 with the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Second Class.
Mr. Pickering was a retired Transportation Foreman and been employed for 38 years at Texas Instruments in Attleboro prior to retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he assisted his wife with the operation of Flowers by Fina in Norton.
Henry was a wonderful individual and was always fond of the ocean. He loved swimming, trips to Cape Cod and especially the treasured times spent with his adoring family. His smile and personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton Henry had made his home in Norton for over 50 years.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted daughters Deborah Malachowski and her husband Stanley of Lincoln, R.I., Laura-Ann Donna and her husband Robert of Foxboro, Martha E. Camire of Norton and Jenna Pickering of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Russel and Ryan Camire of Norton and Diana and Amanda Malachowski of Lincoln, R.I. and is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Prayer services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday March 11th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 10th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
