Obituary

Roy G. Tucker, Sr. 78 of Whitman died Wednesday March 4 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Twomey) Tucker.

Born February 14, 1931 in Abington, MA he was the son of the late George and Eva (Martin) Tucker.

He served in the US Army from 1951 -1953 in the 14th Regiment of Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.

As a teenager Roy was involved in building and flying model airplanes. He was a member of several airplane clubs and in later years built a replica of the Military Bomber X-B35 “Flying Wing” which has been displayed at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

In 1973 Roy’s artistic eye turned to antique automobiles. He was a member of the Lincoln Zephyr Car Club and restored many cars, several of which won numerous awards. His most treasured vehicle was his “1946 Tucker Torpedo” which he built to the exact standards of the vehicle Preston Tucker had envisioned.

Roy worked at General Dynamics in Quincy for any years, the Yale Company of Stoughton, and Merriman of Hingham. In most recent years Roy was self-employed as an upholsterer of antique cars.

He enjoyed car shows, watching sports, and his favorite TV show “Mash”.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his six children Karen (Tucker) Yelapi and her husband Kevin of Middleboro, Janet (Tucker) Gonsalves of Middleboro, Roy Tucker, Jr. of Boston, Ellene (Tucker) Robishaw of Whitman, John Tucker of Whitman, and Richard Tucker of Whitman, his sister Eleanor Altimar and her husband Thomas of Natick, his five grandchildren Patricia Parker, Anita Uhlman, Anthony Martin, Jr. Jason Martin and Stacey Robishaw, his seven great grandchildren Jordan, Jeffrey, Emma, Alexandra, James, Kiara, and Dylan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George and Walter Tucker and Marian Eichelberger.

His funeral service will be held Monday March 9th at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Sunday March 8th from 2-6 PM.
