TEWKSBURY - Eva C. (Sousa) Johnson, age 86, died Wednesday evening, March 4, at the Westford House following a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph W. Johnson.
She was born in Chelmsford, one of seven children of the late Manuel and Frances Sousa. She lived the greater part of her life on Trull Road in Tewksbury, and remained active as an Octogenarian with a part time job at Matrix Technologies in Hudson, NH. She drove herself to work up to the age of 82.
Earlier, she was employed as a presser for the Robert Leonard Dress Company in Lowell, and had the honor and distinction to have helped create the wedding gown of Linda Baines Johnson for her White House wedding ceremony.
Mrs. Johnson was a frequent visitor to area Flea markets, and couldn't drive by a Garage Sale with out stopping.
She is survived by two sons, Walter R. Johnson and his wife Maria (DaSilva) of Tyngsboro, and Richard C. Johnson and Veneranda Batista of Groton; six grandchildren, Walter Johnson Jr of Haverhill, Cheryl Porro of San Francisco, Mark Johnson of Nashua, Derek, Courtney and Brittaney Johnson all of Lowell; a great granddaughter, Naomi; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Manuel, John, and Gladys Sousa, Mary Griffin, Frances McLuin, and Vera Lysz.
Her Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 9, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to the Westford House, Resident's Council Fund, c/o Gisela Ashley, 3 Park Drive, Westford, MA 01886, will be appreciated.
