Patrick J. O'Malley Jr.
...nursing assistant at McLean Hospital; 61
TEWKSBURY - Patrick J. O'Malley Jr., age 61, died peacefully Tuesday morning, March 3, at the home of his sister in Tewksbury, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Dorchester, May 17, 1947, a son of Patrick and Mary (Power) O'Malley. He was raised in Dorchester, and graduated from Boston State Teachers College, now part of U-Mass Boston. He lived a part of his life in Rhode Island, and commuted to his nursing job at McLean Hospital in Belmont for 26 years . Through his years at McLean hospital, he made many friends among the staff who supported him during his illness. He returned to the Lowell area two years ago.
He was a Vietnam era veteran, and served as a Medical Corpsman in Germany.
He was a huge fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, with an interest in all professional sports. He also loved to read, and was well versed in many subjects, especially U.S. history.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Clair and Daniel Morris of Tewksbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Emily (Gregory) O'Malley of Gloucester; three nephews, Eric Morris of FL, Mark Morris of Tewksbury, Brendan O'Malley of NY; one niece, Jessica O'Malley of Quincy; and two grandnieces, Belle and Reilly Morris.
His funeral service was held Friday evening, March 6, in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions to the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
