New Bedford – Dorothy (McAninch) Johnson, aged 84 years, died Friday , February 27, 2009 at Taber Street Nursing and Rehab. She was the beloved wife of Glen Johnson of New Bedford and the beloved mother of Lanny Johnson of Virginia and Gary and his wife Lilia Johnson of Oklahoma. Mrs. Johnson was the grandmother of Tina, Keri and Michael. She is also survived by two great grandsons Kaleb and Jerimia and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Victor, Iowa, the daughter of the late Ed L. and Hazel (Gilbert) McAninch. She moved to Marengo, Iowa where she attended school and met her husband to be, Glen. After completing high school, she was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Marengo. She and Glen married in 1944 and moved to Akron, Ohio in 1949. They then moved to New Bedford in 1962 where Mr. Johnson worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., becoming plant manager in 1969. Dorothy loved flowers, yard work and her family. Glen and Dorothy were in their 65th year of marriage after celebrating their 64th anniversary in 2008.
In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated. Vistation will be at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Monday from 1 – 3 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
