MYSTIC: Rita McGoldrick, 86, of Mystic, died Friday morning in Arlington, VA while visiting her daughter.
Mrs. McGoldrick was born July 22, 1916 in Rutherford, NJ, daughter of James and Johanna Morris. Educated in local schools, she was an honors graduate of Pace Institute, New York City. During World War II she was secretary to the Board of Managers of the New York Cotton Exchange and its Wool Associates.
On September 23, 1941, she married Thomas R. McGoldrick in Holy Spirit Church, New York City. Mr. McGoldrick died December 8, 1997.
A long time resident of New York and New Jersey, she moved to Connecticut in 1967, and had been a resident of Mystic since 1982. She did volunteer work for the Visiting Nurse Association and the Mystic Seaport and was a founding member of St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington.
She is survived by three daughters, Jeanne Bryce of Yorklyn, DE, Katherine Neville of Arlington, VA and Claire Leavey of Manchester, NH, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington on Tuesday at ll:00am. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Old Mystic. There are no visiting hours.
