Ronald Joseph “Joe” Furtado, age 68, widower of Patricia (Aldrich)Furtado and son of the late Joseph and Madelyn (Pimental) Furtado passed away in Fall River, February 22, 2009. Born in Fall River he was and a Somerset resident for 43 years. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church and before retiring; he was the President of the North End Provision d/b/a Furtado’s Chourico. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Swansea, an active member of the Easter Seals, an agent for Pimental Insurance and a Viet Nam Era Air Force veteran.
He is survived by 1 son: John “Jay” Furtado of N Dartmouth; 2 daughters: Jill Ferns and Jennifer McMullen both of Somerset; 2 sisters: Madeline Boutin and Margaret Machado both of Somerset; 5 grandchildren: Shawn, Katie and Dustin Furtado, Joshua & Morgan McMullen and many nieces & nephews.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Thursday at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas More Church at 10 A.M. Interment in Nathan Slade Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Easter Seals or Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
