James “Jimmy” Winfred Elrod, Sr. 75, of Goose Creek, husband of Lois “Tina” Easterling Elrod died Monday, February 23, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 2 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, North Charleston.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 o’clock Tuesday evening. Flowers will be accepted.
Jimmy was born December 31, 1933 in Anderson, son of the late Henry Dewitt Elrod and Grace Cartee Elrod. He served as a former Berkeley County Constable in the early 1960’s. He was a member of the Berkeley County Jaycees. He was one of the founders of the Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Department in 1965 as well as the first captain and he was a member of the Forest Lawn Civic Club. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was former co-owner of Goose Creek Plaza and also partners with H&J Construction. In his early years, he was co-owner of race-team 22 and an avid Nascar fan.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 53 years are:
2 sons: Perry “Pee Wee” Edward Elrod and his wife Susan of Goose Creek and James W. Elrod, Jr. of Goose Creek.
1 daughter: Sherrie Taylor Hall of Moncks Corner
1 brother: Harold Elrod of Goose Creek
1 sister: Linda Margraves of Summerville
Grandchildren: James W. Elrod, III of Moncks Corner, Ashley Elrod Lakes of Moncks Corner, Jimmy Towery of Goose Creek, Randy W. Woods, II of Moncks Corner, Karen Towery of Goose Creek and Allen G. Barnette of Moncks Corner
3 Great Grandchildren: Jaden, Nicole and Haley
Former Daughter-in-law: Connie Fickling Elrod
Former Son-in-law: Randy Woods.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother: Doris Elrod, a sister: Lois Livingston and 2 great grandchildren: James Elrod, IV and Henry Elrod
