Obituary

Rene A. Ouellette, 88, of Fairhaven died Saturday May 31, 2003 at Nichols House Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Gertrude A. (LaFrance) Ouellette; they had been married for 60 years.

Born in Taunton, the son of the late Francois and Rosanna (Desjardins) Ouellette, he lived in New Bedford and Fairhaven for most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.

Mr. Ouellette was formerly employed as an accountant for General Motors for many years at various dealerships in Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and Boston.

Mr. Ouellette was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bentley College. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and participated in the Battle of Central Europe. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.

Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Robert Ouellette and his wife Elizabeth of Dedham, Albert Ouellette of Fairhaven, and Atty. Alfred Ouellette and his wife Leanne of Shrewsbury; 3 daughters, Elaine Viveiros and her husband Richard of Acushnet, Pauline Swanson of Holbrook, and Lucille Boucher and her husband Ronald of Rochester; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was the grandfather of the late David Swanson, and brother of the Roland Ouellette, Rita Powell, and Rose Alma Ouellette.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordWednesday June 4, 2003 at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday June 3, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
