Obituary

Margaretha (Roper) Winn of Needham died on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Wingate at Needham. She was 95 years old. Born in Needham, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn (Hahn) and William Everett Roper. Margaretha graduated from Framingham State College. She and her husband who was enlisted in the Navy survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Winn was the oldest living member of the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church Choir and was a longtime, active member. Roperville, a section of Needham was named for her grandfather and great uncle who owned and operated the former Roper Knitting Company on West Street. The beloved wife of the late Ralph L. Winn, she was the loving mother of Judith W. Salvi and her husband Michael of Natick and the late S. Richard Winn. Dear grandmother of David M. Salvi and his wife Jill of Atlanta GA and Dawn M. Fasciano and her husband Joseph of Needham. Great grandmother of Nicole Fasciano. Sister of the late Everett D. Roper and William E. Roper Jr. A Memorial Service will be held in the Gorse Chapel of the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave Needham on Saturday, February 28 at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in Margaretha’s name may be made to the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church.
