Luciano Zarbano, age 99, of Medford formerly of Boston's West End died peacefully on February 19th, surrounded by his loving family, relatives and friends. He was the beloved husband of the late Elena (DiMare) Zarbano. Born in Carlentini, Italy he was the son of the late Angela (Marchesa) and Giuseppe Zarbano and was the oldest of ten brothers and sisters.
Mr. Zarbano was a very accomplished musician of the nationally renowned 175th Musician Regiment of the Italian Army, which played for heads of state during WWII. During the allied invasion of Sicily, Mr. Zarbano was taken as a prisoner of war by the British Forces and was sent to Alexandria, Egypt. The POW camp commander who had entrusted him to form and conduct an orchestra with the authority and responsibility to also manage it released him in 1945 with very high personal and professional written recommendation. Mr. Zarbano came to the Unites States in 1954 with his late wife and their four sons.
Mr. Zarbano is survived by his sons, Joseph and his wife Barbara of San Antonio, TX, Sonny and his wife Anne of Beverly, Roy Zarbano and his late wife, Annemarie, Sal and his wife Paula all of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of, Joseph, Kathy, Luciano, Elena, Maria, Anthony, Angela, Tony, Elena, Lisa, Christina, Michael and Robert. He is further survived by many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be conducted from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Monday, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3 thru 7. Services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Luciano's memory to the Community Family Neighbors, 121 Washington St. Medford, MA 02155
