Ourania ( Kelakos) Poulakos of Lowell, died peacefully early Tuesday morning at D’Youville Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lowell, daughter of the late George and Helen (Zaroulis) Kelakos. She was a lifelong communicant of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, a member of the Holy Trinity Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Lowell Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope, the Pan-Laconian Society, and the Greek Mothers Club. She was also a proud member of the choir of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for countless years.
She was a graduate of Lowell High School, Lowell Academy of Hairdressing, and attended Lowell Commercial College. For many years, she owned and operated “Rainie’s Beauty Salon” in the Acre Section of Lowell. After her retirement from hairdressing, she worked as a bookkeeper and assistant office manager at Redman Card Clothing Manufacturing Company in Andover, MA.
She will be remembered as a kind, loving, caring, and giving person to her family and friends.
She leaves her daughter and best friend, Effie Poulakos Dragon of Tewksbury and her husband, Jim, her son, George Poulakos and wife, Kelly of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She leaves grandsons Bill and Tom Dragon of Tewksbury and Ari Poulakos of New York City, all of whom shared many fond moments with her; nephews Charles Kelakos Haberstroh and his wife, Patricia, of Westport, Connecticut, George M. Kelakos and wife, Anchelee of Greenwich, Connecticut and a niece, Eleni Kelakos and husband, Jim Fleming of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She leaves many loving cousins in the Greater Lowell area from the Behrakis, Tsapatsaris, and Zaroulis families and other relatives from the Kelakos family in Greece.
She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Michael, Charles, and Thomas Kelakos and sisters, Anastasia and Dorothy Kelakos.
Relatives and friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Friday, Feb. 20 from 4 to 7 pm. Her funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Saturday at 11am with a funeral service to be held the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell at 12 noon. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
