Ernest O. Varin, 94, of Pleasant View Avenue, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at North Bay Manor. He was the husband of Shirley M. (O’Neil) Maynard Varin and the late Gaetana L. (Merola) Varin.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Peter and Kilda (Roy) Varin and step son of Eva (LaChance) Varin. He had been a resident of Providence before moving to Smithfield in 1947.
Mr. Varin was the owner of the former Marvel Jewelry. He was a member of the Swinging Squares and the Smithfield Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons Edmund A. Varin, Joseph J. Varin, both of Smithfield, Carmen R. Varin of Corpus Cristi, TX, his stepchildren; Karen A. McCaffrey of Glocester, Irving J. Maynard, Jr. of Coventry, Nancy J. Babota of Pawtucket, Dorothy A. Yeamen of Richmond, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and a brother Ovide Varin of Narragansett. He was the stepfather of the late Muriel Coppage and brother of the late Arthur, Clarence and Frank Varin, Georgianna Rondeau and Lillian Iciafarno.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Chrisitan Burial in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville at 9am. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation Friday 4-7pm.
