Antoinette “Toni” L. Pieroni, 87, died Monday February 16, 2009 at The Meadows in N. Andover. Toni was born in Derry, NH on June 2, 1921, daughter of the late John P. and Amalia (Giuliani) Pieroni. She had resided at The Meadows in N. Andover for the past 12 years, formerly living in Cambridge, MA for more than 50 years.
Toni was a 1938 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry where in recent years she was inducted into the Hall of Fame for her professional achievements. She graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, MA and later from Simmons College in Boston, MA where she received her Masters Degree in Social Work. She was employed as an oncological social worker at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA. She also worked for the Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Toni was a founding member of the International Association of Oncological Social Workers and enjoyed volunteering her time following retirement. She enjoyed travel, music, skiing and golf. She also appreciated maintaining friendships through correspondence and especially enjoyed attending the symphony.
She is survived by her cousin, Charles Pieroni and his wife Kay of Rochester, NH, also nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday April 18, 2009 at 10:00am in St. Catherine of Sienna Parish, 207 Hemlock St., Manchester, NH. Graveside services will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 Attn: Contribution Services. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling arrangements.
