TEWKSBURY - Louis B. Nolan Jr., age 92, died Monday morning, February 16, at D'Youville Senior Care Center, following a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Catherine L. (Doucette) Nolan, with whom he had celebrated a 70th wedding anniversary this past July 23rd.
He was born in Boston, October 2, 1916, a son of Louis B. and Catherine L. (Finnerty) Nolan. He was raised in Tewksbury, where he lived the greater part of his life. In his retirement, he wintered in Starke, Florida.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Argentina, and Newfoundland, and served aboard the USS Briareus in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Along with a Good Conduct Medal, he earned the American Area, Asiatic Pacific, and Philippine Liberation Medals.
He retired from the Boston and Maine Railroad, where he worked as a machinist.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Catherine McMahon and her husband Paul of West Bridgewater, Mary Lou Fleury and her husband Andrew of Tewksbury, Charlotte Hureau and her husband Philip of Lowell; two sons, Paul Nolan and his wife Marilyn (Adams) of Andover, James Nolan and his wife LuAnn (Schubert) of Arkansas; a son-in-law, Michael Riddle of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Christine (Cheetham) Nolan of Tewksbury; sixteen grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Dorothy Riddle, and brother of the late John J. Nolan.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Feb. 20, in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial with Navy Honors followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to D'Youville Senior Care, 981 Varnum Ave, Lowell, MA 01854 will be appreciated.
