McKernan of Nokomis, FL and Brockton May 26, 2003 Joseph E. McKernan 79 years. Husband of the late Pauline T. (Savage) McKernan. Father of the late Joseph E. McKernan, Jr. Grandfather of Joel “JP” McKernan and his wife Rebecca of Brockton. Brother of Hilda Higgins of Randolph, James McKernan and Mary Bruen both of Boston.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9 am. Funeral Mass in St. Nicholas Church, W. Abington at 10 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm. Donations in his memory may be made to the Brockton Firefighters Local 144 Scholarship Fund, PO Box 868 Brockton, MA 02303.

Obituary

Mr. McKernan died Monday at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL after a sudden illness.He was born in Boston son of the late William and Mary (Burke) McKernan. He has been a resident of Nokomis, Florida for the past 7 years and previously lived in Brockton for over 40 years.

During WW II he served in the US Army in Europe and received the Purple Heart

In 1988 Mr. McKernan retired as supervisor for the Boston Parks Department after many years.He loved caring for his beloved boxers Rocco and MaxHe was a member of the Elks in Randolph and the DAV
