TEWKSBURY: Francis D. “Frank” Harrington, age 80, a resident of Tewksbury for 50 years, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
He was the beloved husband of Marguerite M. (Quinlan) Harrington, with whom he would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on February 27th.
Born in Cambridge on March 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Alice (Dube) Harrington.
Frank was raised in Cambridge and graduated from the Rindge Tech High School.
Mr. Harrington served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), one Overseas Bar, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was employed as a research and development tool and dye maker by the Raytheon Corporation in Waltham, where he worked for over 40 years.
According to his family, Frank was a great skater and also enjoyed playing baseball and walking.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Parish of Tewksbury and was a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center. In addition, he was a volunteer at the Tewksbury Community Food Pantry.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, David F. and Paul S. Harrington both of Tewksbury, Robert M. of North Reading, Debra A. Gavin and her husband William of Tewksbury, J. Brian Harrington and his wife Cheryl of Harvard, and Kevin W. and his wife Heather of Salem, NH; seventeen grandchildren, David, Annette and Leslie Harrington, Jennifer Boyle and her husband Thomas A. Boyle, IV, John, Robert, Tristan, Shane, Kayleigh, Cheyenne and Mark Harrington, Michelle and William Gavin, Jr., Megan, Ian, Brenna and Kaitlyn Harrington; one great grandson; Thomas A. Boyle, V; two sisters, Grace Harrington of Belmont and Alice M. Harrington of Boston.
Mr. Harrington was the brother of the late John and Edward Harrington and father-in-law of the late Mary C. (Berube) Harrington.
Calling hours Tuesday, Feb. 17th, from 4 to 8 p.m.,(G.A.C. Service at 4:30 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Wednesday, Feb. 18th, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876 are suggested.
