LOWELL - Joseph P. Valkavitch, 50, of Lowell, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Lowell General Hospital, due to complications from a stroke.
Born in Lowell on September 14, 1958, he was a son of Alice (Montminy) Valkavitch of Lowell and the late Joseph Valkavitch. He received his education in the Lowell school system.
An honorably discharged veteran, he had served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Valkavitch had been employed at the Raytheon Company in Andover, MA, and at Digital Equipment Corporation in Salem, NH. He had also been employed at Towers News in Lowell.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and cooking. He cherished the time he spent in the company of his children, his family, and especially with his grandson, Jayden. Joey had a great sense of humor and was well known for making others laugh.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving companion, Susan Plourde, of Lowell; two daughters, Amy Valkavitch of Hudson, NH, and Evelyn Valkavitch of Lowell; a grandson, Jayden Valkavitch of Lawrence; his Godson, Justin Bond of Arizona; his Goddaughter, Christine Dionne of Lowell; his former wife, Janice Valkavitch of Saco, ME; four sisters, Linda Lemieux and her husband Philip; Alice Robinson, and Mary Ann Harrington, all of Lowell, and Pauline Stannard of Derry, NH; five brothers, George, James, Robert, Michael and his wife, Kelley, all of Lowell, and Henry Valkavitch of Florida; a brother-in-law, Kevin McConnell, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also the father of the late Jason Valkavitch who predeceased him in 2007, and brother of the late Joanne McConnell.
Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care of DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. It being his wishes, calling hours are omitted. Cremation by Linwood Crematory in Haverhill.
