WORCESTER- Joseph Victor Vecsey, 88, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 8th in UMass Memorial Medical Center. He leaves his wife Erika M. (Steimar) Vecsey; his son, Eric John Vecsey and his wife Elizabeth of Worcester; five daughters, Sharon Vecsey of Eastham, Susan Vecsey and Lorraine Kelsey both of Caifornia, Sende Anne and her husband Richard Fayard of Hardwick and Barbara Jean and her husband Keith Sparhawk of Worcester; a brother, Donald Vecsey in Ohio and a sister Alice Zanine in Florida. Mr. Vecsey also leaves ten grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Jillian, Ryan, Meaghan, Eric, Geoffrey, Amanda, Jamie and Jason; and 3 great-grandchildren, Riley, Kayleb and Brady. He was predeceased by his brother Howard.
He was born in New York City, the son of Joseph V. and Henrietta (Behring) Vecsey. Mr. Vecsey served for 17 years in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, ending his service with the rank of Chief Quartermaster. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in April 1953 which was presented to him by Admiral William Klee. Mr. Vecsey had worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Youth Services; previously he had worked for Spraque Electric as a general foreman. He had served as past president of the Tatnuck Island Club, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Worcester and a former member of Tatnuck Post 288, American Legion.
