Obituary

Richard Warye of Bridgewater died suddenly Sat. Jan. 31 at Caritas Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, he was age 79. Richard was born in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a PhD in theatre. He taught speech and theatre at Bates College from ’61-68’. From 1968 until his retirement in 1994 he was a Prof. of Theatre Arts at Bridgewater State College. While there he developed and ran the Children’s Theatre Program, was the Technical Dir. for many yrs., and ran the box office. Richard was a member of the New England Theatre Conference and was proud to be inducted into their College of Fellows. Richard was a very active member of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Brockton. He served on the Board of Managers, was past President of the Parish, and was currently church moderator and on the Ministerial Relations Committee. He conducted many services at the church including the “Religion in the Musical Theatre” service which was greatly appreciated by the Congregation. After retirement he volunteered with the Talking Information Ctr. to read on the radio for the visually impaired. His last reading was done the day before he passed away. His great passions were attending theatre , his cats, his summer home in Maine that he built, his church, and the Ohio State Buckeye’s Richard was the beloved husband of the late Verna E. (Beckler) Wayre. Loving father of Pamela Wilson of Bridgewater. Twin brother of Robert H. Warye of IN. A memorial service will be held on Sat. Feb. 7 at the Univeralist Unitarian Church, 325 W Elm St, Brockton. Visiting hrs. Thurs. Feb. 5 from 3-6pm at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be sent to the Univeralist Unitarian Church, 325 W Elm St, Brockton 02301.
