Esther (Doherty) Thornton died Friday January 30th, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Isabella (Kelley) and Daniel Doherty.
She was predeceased by her sister Mrs. James Molloy, Mrs. Robert Smith, one brother Edward Doherty.
She was born March 18, 1909. She would have celebrated her hundredth birthday this year. She was educated in Lawrence Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. Esther worked for the City of Lawrence Welfare Department. She lived in South Lawrence for most of her life and attended St. Patrick Church where she was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady.
Esther was predeceased by her husband of many years John F. Thornton a former teacher at Lawrence High School he died in 1972. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law: Beatrice (Betty) and her husband William Quinlan of Lawrence, MA. Elaine T. Williams (wife of the late John R. Williams) of Andover, MA.
Esther is also survived by her grand children Melinda & Michael Tulley of Methuen, MA. Mary Ellen & Stephen Joncas of Pelham, NH, William & Angela Quinlan of Salem, NH, Sean Quinlan of Lawrence, MA. Ellen & Keith Harrington of Burke, Virginia and John R.Williams of Washington, DC. Her great grand children: Melissa, Lauren & Michael Tulley, Kailee & Shannon Joncas, Ryan & Sophia Quinlan, Joseph, Robert & Michaela Harrington.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 118 South Broadway In Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
